Ancestor Altar Construction
Ancestor Altar Construction
In Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil, Minerva said “To understand the living, you got to commune with the dead.” In Santeria, the boveda or ancestor altar is the heart of every home. It is there that we divine & communicate with our dearly departed & help them ascend to higher levels. In return, they offer counsel & intercession in daily matters. The boveda also helps clear up unresolved issues one may have had with a deceased family member or friend. Is there someone you would like to send & receive messages from? Then this workshop is for you. The class includes a discussion of various boveda styles; ranging from the simple Mesa Blanca (White Table) to elaborate Mexican Day of the Dead altars. We’ll also set up a temporary class boveda for personal healing. Through the experience you’ll learn how to set up & maintain your own ancestor altar at home. At the end of the class, you’ll take away a personally a handout packet explaining appropriate altar placement, techniques for tending it & a renewed connection to the world of Spirit.
